Average, Not Best

Why this drill

Golfers remember their longest drive and plan around it forever; the scorecard only ever meets their average. Ten tracked drives, ranked and averaged, retire the fantasy number and issue the real one — worth a club of honesty on every second shot thereafter.

Setup

A tracked bay logging carry and total per shot, driver, ten balls, something to note three numbers on.

The drill

Ten drives, full routine, played like ten different tee boxes. When the screen has all ten, write down three numbers: the best, the average, and the worst that stayed in play. The middle number is your planning distance — the one that decides whether the bunker at 230 is actually in play and which tee shot actually reaches the corner. Repeat monthly; the gap between best and average shrinking is the truest sign a driver swing is maturing.
