The Par-3 Loop

Driving rangeHandicap 10–3020 minrandom / pressureironswedges & chippingcourse strategy

Why this drill

Nine par 3s, invented on the spot from the range's own targets, is the purest scoring practice a bucket allows: every swing a tee shot that counts, every flag a different question, and a card at the end that means something.

Setup

Full bag, eighteen balls, and nine range targets promoted to par 3s — nearest flag to farthest green, each assigned a par of 3.

The drill

Play the loop: tee shot to hole one's flag, judged against a club-length-radius "green" — hitting it counts as a two-putt three, inside a flag-length counts as a birdie two, missing the green is a bogey four unless your second ball (the "chip") lands inside the radius to save par. Two balls maximum per hole, full routine on every swing, walk a circle between holes to reset. Nine holes, honest card. Par 27; anything under 31 is a strong loop at a bogey-golf handicap.

Play the flag the hole gives you, not the swing you were grooving.
