The Metronome
Why this drill
Tempo isn't speed, it's ratio — and a free metronome app trains it like a musician would. Strokes and swings timed to a steady tick acquire the repeating rhythm that pressure loves to steal first.
Setup
A metronome app around 70-80 beats per minute, putter and ball on carpet. Later, a mid iron and swinging room.
The drill
Putting first: back on one tick, through on the next — ten strokes until contact stops chasing the beat and starts landing on it. Adjust the tempo until it feels borrowed from your best day. Then the full swing at a slower setting: takeaway on one, top on two, strike on three. Ten rehearsals. The metronome's gift is honesty about acceleration — the tick exposes the snatch from the top that feel forgives.
