Mirror Checkpoints

Why this drill

Grip and setup are the only parts of golf you can perfect without hitting a ball, and they decide more ball flight than anything that happens after. Ten minutes at a mirror, three checkpoints, no ball to distract you — this is how a swing gets rebuilt in the living room.

Setup

A mid iron and a full-length mirror or phone propped at hip height, facing you. Enough ceiling to swing to waist height.

The drill

Checkpoint one, grip: form your grip watching the mirror, checking two knuckles of the lead hand visible and both "V"s pointing inside your trail shoulder. Regrip ten times from scratch — the hands must find it without negotiation. Checkpoint two, posture: bow from the hips with a straight back, arms hanging under the shoulders; hold for five breaths, five times, glancing only to verify. Checkpoint three: swing to waist height and stop, checking the clubface matches your spine angle. Ten slow reps. The mirror is the coach; the pace is deliberately dull.

One thought to take with you

Slow enough to be correct — speed is for the range, positions are for the mirror.
