Five Shots, One Club

Why this drill

A club is not a distance; it's a range of them. Hitting five different shots with the same iron at the same flag — full, punch, high, toe-down soft, hard low runner — rewires how you see every club in the bag.

Setup

One mid iron, fifteen balls, one target green or flag at a comfortable full-swing distance.

The drill

Cycle five shots in order, three balls each: stock full swing; three-quarter punch; extra-high (ball forward, faster release); gripped-down soft one that lands a club short; and the hardest, lowest runner you can keep on line. Call each before you swing and grade honestly against the call, not the flag. The point is not perfection — it's discovering the same club answers five different questions, which is what course golf actually asks.
