The Strike Map
Why this drill
Carry lives and dies at the middle of the face, and most golfers have no idea where they actually hit it. Ten swings with a marked face turn a guess into a map — and the map usually explains half your bad shots by itself.
Setup
A dry-erase marker, foot powder spray, or impact stickers on the face of a 7-iron. Ten balls. Re-mark the face every few strikes.
The drill
Hit ten stock shots and read the face after each: mark where the ball printed, wipe, repeat. Heel cluster, toe cluster, low-face scatter — each is a different diagnosis, and none of them is fixed by swinging harder. Then hit five balls trying to move the strike deliberately — two toe strikes on purpose, two heel, one pure. Owning the miss is the beginning of owning the middle.
