Why this drill
Driver launch is negotiable, and the tee is the negotiation. Hitting drives from low, standard, and sky-high tees teaches what your angle of attack actually does to flight — and finds the height your swing secretly prefers.
Setup
Driver and fifteen balls. Tee positions: barely off the deck, your normal height, and high enough that half the ball sits above the crown.
The drill
Five drives at each height, same target line, same effort. Low tees force a flatter strike and a lower flight — note the carry cost. High tees invite the upward hit that adds carry, and punish a steep swing with sky marks. Watch flight, not distance boards: the height that produces your calmest, most repeating flight is the one that goes in your pre-round routine. Most players discover they've been teeing it a half-inch too low for years.
One thought to take with you
Hit up on it — the ball is teed because the driver is the one club that wants the low point behind the ball.
