Why this drill
Height control is direction control's forgotten twin. Calling low, medium, or high before every ball — and grading only the height — isolates the skill that turns trees, wind, and tucked flags from problems into options.
Setup
A 6- or 7-iron, fifteen balls, one flag. Three windows in your mind's eye: under the flag's height, standard, and above it.
The drill
Call a height out loud, then hit. Never the same call twice in a row. Low comes from ball back and a shorter finish; high from ball forward and a full release — but let the flights teach you your own recipe rather than forcing one. Two points for the called window, one for adjacent, zero for the opposite. Fifteen balls, thirty possible; twenty means you own the vertical. Direction is ignored entirely today — one variable at a time.
