Why this drill

Scramble format — two balls, always play the better position, both balls from there — produces the round your best decisions and best swings would build together. As practice it teaches aggressive lines with a safety net, and shows how good the course lets you be.

Setup

An empty course, two balls, nine holes. Scramble rules against the card: par is the opponent.

The drill

Both balls off the tee, walk to the better one, play both from that spot, and so on into the hole — first make counts on the green. Because the net exists, take the aggressive line you'd normally decline: the corner carry, the tucked flag, the putt run at instead of lagged. That's the drill — rehearsing commitment with the cost removed, so the swing learns what committed feels like. Score against par; most bogey golfers flirt with level, and the memory of aggressive swings that worked outlasts the format.
