Worst-Chip Scramble

Short gameHandicap 5–2020 minrandom / pressurewedges & chippingputting

Why this drill

Two chips, play the worse one — the short-game version of golf's most demanding practice format. Worst-ball around the green exposes the difference between one good chip and a dependable chipping motion, which is the difference the course bills for.

Setup

Two balls, wedges and putter, six stations around the green from honest lies.

The drill

At each station chip both balls, then finish the hole from the worse of the two — including putting both balls and living with the worse putt. Par 2 per station, twelve total; par the course at worst-chip and your real scramble percentage is about to jump. The format's genius is what it punishes: the one loose swing per station that singles-ball practice quietly forgives.

The second chip tells the truth — make it agree with the first.
